The value of silence

Why is the internet acting up again? Damn it. So now I end up typing this in Notepad then copy paste later on…
Actually, I’ve been planning to blog since yesterday because (1)the words of my theo prof stirred a blogging impulse in me and (2)I just created an account in i.ph However, I couldn’t resist the urge to pick and change the templates/pictures first…And by the time I was somehow contented with the way my site looked (for now), I was dazed already. I couldn’t remember what it was exactly that I found moving haha.
Then today, of all times possible *snort*, I remembered what I wanted to blog about when I was about to take a nap. It was half frustrating and half “aha!” moment. I had to mentally repeat it before I could sleep because I didn’t want to forget it again.
I guess by now you’re already intrigued what it’s all about and why I’m itching to blog about it so here goes..
During my 6-7:30 Theo class, I was already staring into space and only half-listening even though it was just the second meeting. Then all of sudden Sir Lib started telling a story about comforting people. He said that when people want to be alone, we can accompany them in silence. Sometimes we don’t have to say anything to comfort them- our presence would already mean a lot. When we cannot find the right words to say, we don’t have to force ourselves to say something that sounds right. Quoting Sir Lib “sometimes we end up doing more damage” when we try so hard to utter comforting words. There is a soothing rhythm that companionable silence offers. It creates a deep connection, one that’s deeper than the effect that the “right words” can give. It is a connection between two souls, so intense yet so fragile. A single word you say can break the priceless moment which could have lasted for eternity.
It is our silence that takes away the loneliness of being in solitude. Through silence, another can feel our sincerest desire to give comfort.
Pure and simple.
